Event narrative
Strong rip currents developed as winds increased around scattered thunderstorms combined with strong outgoing tidal currents. Three vacationing swimmers just off the Gulf-side beaches of the Fort Morgan Peninsula became caught in strong rip currents and drowned. The swimmers were reportedly vacationing separately from Bowling Green, Kentucky, Bossier City, Louisiana, and Overland Park, Kansas. One of the victims was reportedly trying to rescue another victim.
