Event narrative

Gusty outflow wind from a collapsing rain shower blew down or broke over 100 trees at Colter Bay Campground and RV Park. Three or four of the falling trees struck and damaged vehicles at the park. One large branch, estimated to be 40 feet long and nearly one foot in diameter, struck a 30-year-old woman. The woman was life-flighted to a regional hospital with critical injuries.

Wider weather episode

A thunderstorm along the Idaho-Wyoming border weakened as it moved east across Teton County. The remnants of this storm eventually produced strong outflow wind in Grand Teton National Park. Numerous trees were downed at Colter Bay causing damage to vehicles and injuring one person.
