Wider weather episode

An unstable air mass combined with an upper level disturbance and a weak surface boundary to produce thunderstorms. Some of the storms produced large, destructive hail and isolated wind damage. Quarter to golf ball size hail damaged vehicles in Rhinelander (Oneida Co.), but east central Wisconsin was hardest hit by the storms. Thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines in the Birnamwood (Shawano Co.) and Clintonville (Waupaca Co.) areas, and golf ball to tennis ball size hail caused considerable damage to vehicles, homes and businesses around the city of Manitowoc (Manitowoc Co.).
