An ice jam formed on the Koyukuk River at Hughes during the early morning of the 27th and then broke apart on the morning of the 29th. River water rose significantly on the 27th, flooding the old/lower town site and cutting it off from the upper town site. Water also surrounded the airport by early on the 28th though the airport was still usable. Damage amounts are estimated and includes 2 homes with major damage and 7 homes with minor damage, along with $115,000 to repair public infrastructure.
