An amateur radio operator in Deming estimated wind gusts to 65 mph.

A deep northerly flow was setup across the region as a deep upper low was located over the Mississippi River Valley and an upper ridge over the Great Basin. A back door cold front moved into the Rio Grande Valley bringing in some low level moisture and providing the focus for severe thunderstorms to develop across the region. Wind gusts up to 90 mph were found to occur after a damage survey team assessed damage around the Elephant Butte Lake area. Some flash flooding was also reported near the Silver Fire burn scar.
