Event narrative

A 19 year old male was knocked down by high surf then likely pulled seaward by a rip current at Daytona Beach. He was last seen struggling to stay afloat. His body was recovered the following day and autopsy results confirmed he died of drowning.

Wider weather episode

Several days of hazardous conditions impacted the east-central Florida coast, primarily along the Volusia and Brevard County beaches, due to a combination of high surf and rip currents. A man drowned in the surf at Daytona Beach after being caught in a rip current.
