A sharpening upper level trough was swinging through the Northeast on the afternoon of August 4th. Good dynamics associated with this system along with rapid cooling aloft produced afternoon showers and some thunderstorms. A thunderstorm pushing offshore near Portland produced a measured gust of 39 mph.
