NDBC Diamond Shoals buoy (41025) observed a 45 knot marine thunderstorm wind gust.

The wider storm

A strong area of low pressure passed inland across the Piedmont of North Carolina during the 26th and 27th. Convection associated with the low pressure created a highly sheared environment which resulted in several marine thunderstorm wind gusts and a waterspout that came ashore along the Crystal Coast near Atlantic Beach.

Began near Hatteras Inlet (35.0060, -75.4020).
