Snowfall accumulated to a depth of 3 to 4 inches across Roan Mountain and vicinity.

Wider weather episode

An upper level trough and associated cold front moved across the Eastern U.S. bringing a modified Arctic air mass to the region. A trailing short wave trough moved across the Southern Appalachians during the late night hours generating snowfall amounts around one to three inches in the lower terrain and amounts between 3 and 6 inches in the higher terrain areas across extreme Eastern Tennessee and the higher peaks across Southwest Virginia.
