Event narrative
A 43 year old male collapsed while pumping gas and was found by a highway patrol officer. The man died from heat stroke. The victim's core body temperature was 106 degrees.
Wider weather episode
Several days of extreme heat with afternoon highs in the upper 90s to lower 100s resulted in numerous heat related injuries across Central North Carolina and one heat related death.
