Strong winds developed behind an arctic cold front. Winds gusted to between 40 and 50 mph across much of western Maine. Snapped trees and branches caused power outages throughout the region. Central Maine Power reported that about 48,500 customers lost electrical service with nearly 50 poles snapped by falling trees and branches.
