Event narrative
A homeless woman in Opelousas was found dead after spending a cold night outside. The low temperature at KLFT, which is 23 miles south of Opelousas, during the morning of the 7th was 20 degrees. The woman refused to go to a shelter the previous evening and was found by a firefighter the next morning behind a fire station.
Wider weather episode
A strong cold front swept through during the 5th with strong north winds behind the boundary pushing tides below normal and hindering ship traffic. Very cold temperatures also swept into South Louisiana behind the boundary. Two people were reported dead from exposure.
