A strong 1045 mb high pressure centered 460 miles northeast of Wrangell Island coupled with a low pressure trough over the north slope of Alaska and the western Bering Sea, created snow, strong winds and blizzard conditions for Barrow during the morning hours of the 9th.

Zone 202: Blizzard conditions were observed at Barrow from approximately 0400AKST through 1300AKST on the 9th. The visibility was reduced to one quarter mile or less in snow and blowing snow. There was a peak wind gust of 40 kt (46 mph) at the Barrow ASOS.
