Winter Weather in Elliott, Kentucky

The Elliott county EM reported that 6 accidents occurred on icy roads around the county. None of the accidents involved major injuries.

For a few hours during the early morning hours of January 2, 2014, light freezing rain created a coating of ice on numerous roadways around eastern Kentucky. Even though the accumulations of ice were miniscule, a few hundredths of an inch or less in most cases, the impacts were significant. The icy roads caused numerous car accidents in many counties around the area. Unfortunately, a number of people were injured in these accidents, a few fatally. This winter weather event provides a great example of how even the smallest accumulations of ice on roadways can create enormous impacts, particularly during the morning or evening rush.
