Event narrative

Freezing rain began falling the afternoon of Jan 28th and may have briefly changed over to sleet before tapering off to flurries the morning of the 29th. Total ice accumulations were about a three tenths of an inch. Due to the nature of the precipitation, power outages were isolated, however driving was treacherous. Numerous traffic accidents were reported as well as injuries due to slips and falls.

Wider weather episode

Arctic air surged into the region, undercutting warmer air aloft. This coupled with an area of low pressure tracking northeast along the front produced a variety of winter weather with a mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain.
