Event narrative

The event started with light freezing rain and sleet in the early morning across Lafayette Parish before changing over to mostly sleet. Sleet accumulation ranged up to around half an inch with ice accumulation under a tenth of an inch. Icy conditions shut portions of Interstate 10 from Lafayette to Baton Rouge during the event.

Wider weather episode

Less than a week after a snow and freezing rain event across the region and only 3 days after the ice had melted, cold air crept back in while another upper level disturbance traversed the area. Area temperatures were slightly colder during this event with precipitation falling as mostly sleet and snow; however freezing rain occurred as well.
