2014-01-12 · Orange County Coastal Areas, California

Event narrative

A spotter in Yorba Linda reported dense fog, with visibility less than 500 feet.

Wider weather episode

Surface high pressure building over the Great Basin resulted in a shallow marine layer confined to the coast, causing areas of dense fog in higher coastal terrain and some of the coastal mesas, especially in San Diego County. Visibilities were below one-quarter mile at several locations during the evening of the 11th into the morning of the 12th.
