Temperatures dropped to below freezing over interior sections of Palm Beach County near Lake Okeechobee on the early morning of January 19th. Temperatures just outside Belle Glade at the FAWN station dropped to 30 degrees, with unofficial readings in the mid to upper 20s from South Bay to Pahokee. This led to some damage to the vegetable crop in western Palm Beach County, such as corn and lettuce. An estimated 700 acres of corn were lost near South Bay.

Cold, surface high pressure settled over south Florida in the wake of a strong cold front that moved across the area on January 17th. Calm winds and clear skies led to a very cold night and early morning across interior south Florida.
