Event narrative

A 19 year old teenager was swimming in waste deep water when he was pulled out past the buoy line by a rip current and pulled under the water. He was rescued by a friend and needed to be resuscitated by CPR. The victim was then taken to a hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front crossed the Florida Peninsula on the evening of the 17th and morning of the 18th, with a band of showers and thunderstorms developing ahead of the front. Some of the stronger storms produced damaging wind gusts during the afternoon of the 17th as the storms came onshore. Additionally, one person was injured from a rip current on Siesta Key.
