Strong northerly winds developed through the Santa Ynez mountains in southern Santa Barbara county. The RAWS sensor at Montecito reported northerly wind gusts as high as 60 MPH.
Wider weather episode
A strong northerly pressure gradient generated gusty northerly winds across sections of Southern California. The usual north wind-prone areas such as the Santa Ynez mountains and the Interstate 5 corridor through the Los Angeles county experienced wind gusts as high as 77 MPH.
