Wider weather episode

Nighttime thunderstorms developed within an unstable air mass across the higher terrain of southwest North Carolina. Although several discrete cells exhibited strong rotation, only isolated large hail and isolated wind damage were reported. In addition, training thunderstorms resulted in locally heavy rainfall, with 2-4 falling in some areas in a short period of time. The combination of this heavy rainfall and a blocked culvert caused a significant flooding event in Woodfin.
