Event narrative

A moderate front, moving north and northeast from the north-central Pacific, was preceded by strong easterly winds. These strong winds, which primarily affected the eastern Aleutians, also produced local blizzard conditions in blowing snow. Locally heavy snows were also reported.Winds around the Dutch Harbor area peaked at 102 mph between 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm Wednesday. Strong winds continued thereafrter, finally diminishing to less than 60 mph across the eastern Aleutians Thursday morning. Heavy snow and blizzard conditions in blowing snow accompanied the strong winds.
