Arctic air followed very mild weather. Then a storm system moved into the plains and dropped a mixture of snow, sleet, freezing rain and freezing drizzle. Numerous non-injury accidents occurred including a school bus in the Topeka area that slid off the road. One indirect fatality occurred with the icy conditions on the Kansas Turnpike just east of Topeka.
