A strong low moved up to the central Aleutians early on March 19, and interacted with moderate high pressure and cold air over the Chukchi Sea and the Far East Russia. As the low pressure center in the Aleutians weakened and moved slowly east, the winds at Gambell diminished. High winds were reported at Gambell AWOS: 41 mph sustained, gusts 53 mph.
