A strong cold front moved through north and central Georgia during the late morning and afternoon. A tight pressure gradient produced strong surface winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts as high as 40 to 45 mph in many locations. In Atlanta, the wind blew down a 60 foot tree, which was rotten in the center. The tree injured 13 people at the Dogwood Arts Festival at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. In addition, a golf cart and three tents were crushed by the tree. A TV station in Macon reported downed trees and power outages in various spots throughout Bibb county.
