Event narrative
Strong north to northeast winds developed across the Santa Clarita Valley. Various RAWS stations (Newhall Pass, Del Valle, and Saugus) reported wind gusts between 58 and 60 MPH.
Wider weather episode
Surface high pressure, building into the Great Basin, generated a strong late-season Santa Ana wind event across Ventura and Los Angeles counties. In the mountains, northeast wind gusts in excess of 70 MPH were reported while northeast wind gusts in excess of 60 MPH were reported in some valley areas. As the winds developed, a couple of small wildfires occurred across the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, but did not grow to any significant levels.
