Event narrative

Strong northeast winds developed across the coastal valleys of Ventura county. The RAWS sensor at Wiley Ridge reported wind gusts up to 71 MPH while the RAWS sensor at Cheeseboro reported wind gusts up to 70 MPH.

Wider weather episode

Surface high pressure, building into the Great Basin, generated a strong late-season Santa Ana wind event across Ventura and Los Angeles counties. In the mountains, northeast wind gusts in excess of 70 MPH were reported while northeast wind gusts in excess of 60 MPH were reported in some valley areas. As the winds developed, a couple of small wildfires occurred across the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, but did not grow to any significant levels.
