A pair of severe thunderstorms caused extensive wind damage in Hartford County. The most significant damage occurred in Farmington and New Britain where thunderstorm winds downed over one hundred trees. Nearly 88,000 electric customers from Canton to West Hartford and Newington were left without power. Six people were hurt by flying debris when the storms ripped through the Farmington Polo Grounds, where an antique fair was being held. Two others were injured in New Britain when they were pinned in their cars by fallen trees.
