What F1 means. This tornado was rated on Fujita’s original scale, used until 2007. F1 meant moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken; the scale paired it with winds of 73–112 mph, figures later judged too high, especially toward the top of the scale, and revised downward in the Enhanced Fujita scale. Ratings then, as now, came from the damage.

A tornado touched down a few miles west of Pemberville along State Route 105 and near the north branch of the Portage River. The tornado moved in a west to east direction for several hundred yards along the river. The observed damage path was approximately 25 yards in width. The roofs of two businesses were torn off by the tornado. One of the roofs landed 500 feet away from the building it came from.
