A strong 976 mb low, moving close to 45 mph north northeastward, crossed Shemya around midnight Tuesday. Sustained southerly winds were estimated at 60+ mph around Amchitka...on the east side of the storm. Winds shifted rapidly to the west and southwest behind the low and began to diminish Wednesday.
