Strong southerly winds preceded a vigorous weather front that moved across the western Aleutians Thursday. Shemya, the only reporting land station in the area, recorded pre-frontal southerly winds at or above 60 mph from just after noon until 6pm ADT. Observations from 6pm ADT until the front passed around 10 pm ADT Wednesday were missing. Peak recorded wind reached 71 mph in the afternoon.
