Moderate drought conditions persisted throughout the month of September. Even as the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon moved near the area and remnants of Helene moved across much of the area, rainfall was not enough to significantly affect drought conditions. Severe drought conditions had begun the month over several immediate coastal counties of southeast Georgia, but the small amounts of rain only improved drought conditions from severe to moderate.
