Wider weather episode

During the night, the thunderstorms mentioned above advanced east and south. In addition, thunderstorms spread north from Missouri into southern Iowa. An outflow boundary moved into central Iowa during the early morning hours and initiated an intensification of the convection. Though the storms were not severe, considerable lightning accompanied the storms. Lightning struck a house in Warren County east of Milo. The house was set on fire and an elderly gentleman was killed in the fire. A short time later, lightning struck a clubhouse at a recreational facility on the northwest edge of the Des Moines metro area. The clubhouse was set on fired by the lightning and was a total loss, however no injuries were reported.
