Event narrative

Persistent moderate to heavy rain caused flooding of fields and other lowlands, including several roads, homes, and businesses. This flooding lasted for almost two days, and was aggravated locally by additional storms during that time. Many roads throughout the county were damaged or washed out.

Wider weather episode

Thunderstorms produced numerous events of large hail, damaging winds, flash flooding, and areal flooding across most of southeast South Dakota from late morning through the evening of June 16th. The areal flooding was a longer term event and persisted through much of June 18th.
