A lee side trof and an unseasonably warm air mass helped trigger a band of strong to severe showers and thunderstorms over Pennsylvania during the afternoon of the 27th. While the thunderstorms started to weaken as they entered New Jersey, the gust front associated with these storms still produced wind gusts of around 40 knots as it passed across Atlantic, Ocean and Monmouth County coastal waters.
