Public reported nickel size hail near Balsam.

Wider weather episode

Scattered thunderstorms developed over the high terrain throughout the afternoon and moved east, while additional numerous thunderstorms moved into western North Carolina from East Tennessee during the late afternoon and early evening. Multiple localized severe thunderstorms developed from this activity and produced quite a bit of large hail along with isolated wind damage.
