Wider weather episode

Strong winds hit the Philip area. A large grain bin was moved about 15 feet off its foundation and buckled. Part of the elementary school's roof was torn off. On the north side of town, three grain bins were rolled down a hill. The town had extensive tree damage; many streets were blocked by the downed trees and branches. The emergency manager estimated that 70 percent of the houses in town would have to be reshingled. At the airport three miles east of town, part of a hangar collapsed and fell on an airplane. The power went out before the storm reached the airport, so no wind data was available from the ASOS. The sheriff commented that the wind felt stronger than winds measured at 83 mph during a storm a couple of years ago.
