A strong frontal system from the Gulf of Alaska brought strong gusty winds to the southern third of the Alaskan panhandle as it moved onshore. Peak winds associated with this event were 75 mph at the Ketchikan harbor, 63 mph at the Ketchikan airport tower, and 47 mph at the Hydaburg seaplane base. A spotter in Craig reported (estimated) 40 to 50 mph winds.
