Daytime high temperatures in the mid to upper 90's, combined with dew points in the mid 70's, resulted in heat indices from 105 to 112 degrees. Nighttime heat indices only fell to around 80. On July 9, an elderly male was found in his Cape Girardeau home three days after he died from heat stroke. The home had no air conditioning, and the windows of the home were nailed shut for safety.
