High pressure along the Arctic Coast coupled with a northward moving Low into southcentral Alaska strengthened the pressure gradient across northern Alaska along the southern slopes of the western Brooks Range. As a result, localized strong winds developed in the Upper Noatak Valley. Wind gusts to 54mph were recorded at the Makpik Creek RAWS (Remote Automated Weather System) observation site.
