Event narrative

High surf along the beach caused a retaining wall behind a Pensacola Beach condominium to collapse. A Heavy Surf Advisory was in effect for area beaches, as large swells, propagating northward from Tropical Storm Gabrielle, which was over the far southern Gulf of Mexico, were producing high surf.
