A very strong cold front moved across northwestern South Dakota in the early morning hours. Behind this front, a particularly tight surface pressure gradient combined with strong low-level winds to produce sustained winds in excess of 50 mph and wind gusts to 86 mph for several hours during the late morning and afternoon. The only report of damage was one tree being blown over in Perkins County. Minor damage to a sign was reported in Rapid City.
