The wider storm
Strong winds from a collapsing thunderstorm north of Maui County swirled through the central valley of Maui and entered Maalaea Bay and surrounding waters. The winds then stirred up waves of 8 to 12 feet. The weather conditions proved deadly for a tourist from Texas, who apparently succumbed to the battering of winds and waves near Molokini isle just west of Makena on Maui.
Began near Fad Buoy La (20.6346, -156.4972).
