Event narrative

A person from the public reported dime to nickel size hail along with heavy rain. Pea-size hail was reported in Philipsburg.

Wider weather episode

A upper level low centered over west-central Washington State at 6 am MDT on July 14 slowly moved eastward across western Montana by 6 am on July 15 and then moved east to central Montana later that evening. Due to the above normal amounts of atmospheric moisture with origins from the sub-tropics, the thunderstorms produced very heavy rainfall in a short amount of time.
