A person from the public reported 0.50 of rainfall that fell in 15 minutes. A person from Florence measured 0.74 that fell in 15 minutes as well.

Wider weather episode

A upper level low centered over west-central Washington State at 6 am MDT on July 14 slowly moved eastward across western Montana by 6 am on July 15 and then moved east to central Montana later that evening. Due to the above normal amounts of atmospheric moisture with origins from the sub-tropics, the thunderstorms produced very heavy rainfall in a short amount of time.
