The Valley Fire was ignited by lightning in the Falls Creek area adjacent to the Animas Valley in late June (see June 2002 Storm Data publication). 22 homes in the Falls Creek subdivision were destroyed. The Valley Fire consumed 400 acres and became part of the Missionary Ridge Fire Complex. The complex was contained on July 17th.
