Event narrative

Heavy rains forced the Chattahoochee River to flood eastern sections of Chambers County including some sections of Lanett. Chamber County Emergency Management Agency reported that 900 industry, businesses, and homes were affected. Two houses were destroyed and 32 suffered major damage. Two mobile homes were destroyed. Thirty-one businesses suffered major damage while eight sustained minor damage. Nearly $900,000 damage was done to government infrastructure.The Chattahoochee River crested at 23.2 feet at 11 am CDT on May 9 at the West Point, GA, river gauge. Flood stage is 19 feet.
