A lightning strike hit a transformer in La Crescent and the resulting damage also took out a nearby substation. Around 3,400 customers were without power until the next day.

Thunderstorms rolled across southeast Minnesota during the afternoon of August 4th. A lightning strike from one of these storms hit a transformer in La Crescent (Houston County). The damage from the strike was enough to make a nearby substation unrepairable causing around 3,400 customers to be without power until the following day.
