A low center of 993 mb moved gradually north over the Bering Sea on the the 30th and the remains of it moved into the northern interior of Alaska on the 31st. The system brought warm air with it which caused widespread rain...freezing rain...sleet...and a little snow. Rain and freezing rain was reported at Huslia and Kaltag (zone 216) and at Ambler (zone 217). The Alaska Department of Transportation reported very hazardous driving conditions over the southern half of the Dalton Highway (zones 219 and 220), and the Elliott Highway to Manley (zone 221) and the Parks Highway from Fairbanks to Nenana (zones 222, 221). The Fairbanks North Star School District closed schools that day in anticipation of hazardous driving conditions for buses in the hilly areas surrounding Fairbanks.Zone 222: The Fairbanks National Weather Service site received 0.11 of an inch of rain during the event, most of which fell from 6am to noon. Rain was also reported at Eielson AFB, and Fort Wainwright.
