The COOP observer measured 1.66 inches of rainfall for the 24 hours ending at 7 am Aug. 15. Most likely this rainfall amount was associated with the supercell thunderstorm that tracked over the area.
Wider weather episode
A supercell thunderstorm developed across the Camas Prairie and peaked in intensity over western Clearwater County between Greer and Weippe. The storm unleashed severe winds and half-dollar hail causing close to a million dollars in property and crop damage. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) designated Clearwater County as a primary natural disaster area due to this wind and hail event on Sep. 3.
